If you live in a dry climate then you won't have anything to worry about but if you constantly have rain and other overcast weather then you should really think about investing in something that can tolerate that kind of weather and climate. A nice round outdoor rug that is made of polypropylene will last and if you spend a little extra then you might just get something that is very attractive.
